INSIDE No 9: THE BONES OF ST. NICHOLAS (2022)

MY BLOODY ASYLUM VIEWING PLEASURE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON EVENING

Two of the best writers on the planet Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith return in festive style with their imaginative, eclectic anthology TV series and this M.R. James inspired Christmas ghost story.

Dr Jasper Parkway (Pemberton) has booked an overnight stay in a reputedly haunted church. However, much to his annoyance he is soon joined by unwanted guests.

Not only wonderfully writing every episode Pemberton and Shearsmith also appear in each one alongside some of the very best actors from the UK, of which their characters are always created specifically for them. This time out they are joined by Simon Callow.

With THE BONES OF ST. NICHOLAS Pemberton and Shearsmith yet again deliver an enthralling, and this time creepily scary, 30 minute mini movie. Brilliantly realised and backed up by a screenplay with well rounded characters that wonderfully inhabit an engaging storyline which culminates in very surprising fashion, as has come to be pretty much expected from most installments of this phenomenal series.

M.R. James would no doubt be impressed to know his inspiration lives on in such pure unadulterated fashion, yet with a contemporary spin.

INSIDE No 9 as a whole cannot be recommend highly enough, containing some of the best horror, among other genres, of recent years.

THE BONES OF ST. NICHOLAS really is a good place to start for those who have yet to experience this amazing series.

Fans will well know they are in for a Christmas treat.

Now available on BBC iPlayer.
